Trine University ended 2023 in style with its first Fall Commencement ceremony in several years, an event celebrating diverse student experiences and academic excellence. Marking a significant milestone for over 1,300 Master's degree graduates, around 800 participated in the ceremony held on December 16th in Trine University’s Keith E Busse/Steel Dynamics Inc Athletic and Recreation Centre.

Highlighting diverse journeys

Each graduate at Trine University's Fall Commencement ceremony represented a unique story of determination and achievement. The university's commitment to diversity was evident in the large number of international students who attended the occasion. In fact, following the induction of the new graduates into the Alumni Association, the response for the Class of 2023 was presented by distinguished international graduate, Yancy Hansford. She praised students for their courage and emphasised the importance of maintaining strong connections with their roots.

Words of wisdom and inspiration

The event was also led by keynote speakers, including Tony Kline Ph.D, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, who welcomed graduates with an opening speech that not only acknowledged but embraced the diverse cultural backgrounds of the student body. Another prominent speaker was V.K. Sharma Ph.D., Dean Emeritus, who noted the similarity between what was once his own journey as an international student and that of many of the graduates. Their speeches focused on embracing change and recognising the value of one's journey, regardless of its path.

The Fall Commencement of 2023 was more than a celebration of academic achievements; it was a recognition of the personal growth and diverse experiences of each graduate. As these new alumni step into the next phase of their lives, they carry with them not only a degree, but also the rich experiences and learnings from their time at Trine University.
